A global study of primary English teachers’ qualifications, training and career development by Dr. Helen Emery
This book has recently been published and it has drawn a lot of attention from English teachers. The author is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. She has taught English language (General, Business, IELTS) in Brunei, Egypt, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Oman and
the UAE. Also Dr. Helen Emery is the joint co-ordinator of the IATEFL Young Learners and Teenagers special interest group. The book is a report on a global study of primary English teachers’ qualifications, training, teaching experience and career development. Electronic and skype surveys were made and almost 2,500 responses were collected from 9 countries around the world. Classroom and online teachers, head teachers from rural and urban areas were interviewed. The research indicates some global trends in areas of teaching and learning English and raises issues which should be taken up by teachers and officials and describes some solutions.
